Where to Find Simple Woodworking Projects for Beginners

11310680446_p1010572.jpgSince I own a home and have kids of my own in school there always seem to be some new woodshop projects that require my attention. I remember back during high school days when I was enrolled in woodshop, the instructor was always searching for some sort of easy woodshop projects we could actually complete on our own.

Back then you would have to subscribe to woodworking magazines or buy a few expensive woodcraft books just to find a few decent projects. Now everybody has the largest potential library of woodworking plans just a mouse click away.

I went to school before the days of the World Wide Web. Cool woodshop project ideas and woodworking plans were difficult to find. The most creative project our instructor could locate for us to do was a shoeshine box. It was so lame. Mine was the worst. I did not ever own the right carpentry tools at home so I could never practice on my woodworking, and, of course, I did not have the space to work on it either.

When I became a homeowner, I began to understand the need to do wood projects and repairs all the time. However, the kind of woodshop plans that I need now are much more complicated than back in high school. Sometimes I have to build something, other times I just do repair work. Some weekends I might need to do an easy project like making a dog house, or a playhouse, or a green house, or other weekends I may have to tackle something bigger such as kitchen projects, or even start on my shed plans to build my own man cave.

Well, I have discovered that having the best set of plans with easy to understand instructions makes a huge difference even though I am still not very skillful with a set of tools. Even a person like me can follow instructions if they are simple enough and the steps are in sequence. (Photos are very helpful, too.)

I can recall when I was a young parent going over to the lumberyard to get wood to construct a play house. I was inexperienced and thought I could do it on my own apart from getting a good set of plans. That was a stupid mistake! I wound up wasting a lot of materials and a lot of time and feeling kind of embarrassed, too.

The good news is, there are just a few really helpful websites on the internet now that seem to be designed for people just like me (and maybe you, too). If you have a laptop and an internet connection then you are able to find some impressive woodshop plans pretty easily. One outstanding advantage of these online projects is that they can be instantly downloaded to your pc or mac and printed out as needed. Complex woodshop projects and plans are accessible to the newbie and expert woodworker alike.

One of the best and easiest ways to find quality woodworking plans is to simply use your google search engine. Go to google and type in “woodshop projects” or “woodshop plans” and you will find some websites where you can purchase thousands of plans. Look for a site that provides good information and maybe a thorough review of some of the websites that have plans you can purchase. Of course, if you prefer an actual book or magazine, then go to amazon and type in the same words in the search box. It will not be as instant as purchasing plans online and you will not be able to print them out, but you can carry a book with you.

I have learned a lot since those early days and I am glad I have found some of the best places to find excellent woodworking projects online.
